MOVQuickTime Movie
Apple’s video format (QuickTime), used by the iPhone and many cameras. Windows, Android and some websites handle it less well than MP4.
Turn your MOV videos into MP3 files right in your browser, so your files are never uploaded to a server. How long it takes depends on the video’s length and your device.

Click “Choose MOV files” or drop them on the page. You can add several at once.
MP3 is already selected. Choose the bitrate, from 128 to 320 kbps.
Click “Convert”, then download your MP3 file. With several files, grab everything at once as a ZIP.
The sound of an iPhone video or a Mac screen recording can be extracted without touching the picture: only the audio track is decoded, whether the video is H.264 or HEVC. That sound, AAC in iPhone videos, is resampled to 44.1 kHz if it was at 48 kHz, then encoded as MP3 at the bitrate you choose, keeping stereo or mono.
There is no trimming: the whole soundtrack is converted. To keep just one passage, say a single song from a concert, shorten the video first in the Photos app with Edit, save it as a new clip, then convert that clip. For speech, 128 kbps is enough; for music, stay at 192 kbps or above.

The most universal audio format. Its compression shrinks files a lot while keeping good listening quality, and it plays on every device.
Most likely because it has no audio track. The Mac’s built-in screen recording tool does not capture the computer’s own sound, only the microphone, and only if you picked one in its options. With no audio track, the conversion shows an error. Check in QuickTime Player that the video really has sound.
No. The MP3 is created with no metadata at all: no recording date, location or device model. It only takes the video’s name, for example IMG_1234.mp3, and its file date is the day of the conversion. If you are archiving recordings, add the date to the file name.
No. The file is read and converted by your browser, on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, and nothing is kept after you close the page.
Only the audio track is extracted, then encoded as MP3. At the default bitrate (192 kbps) quality is very good for listening; choose 320 kbps for the maximum.
As many as you like, for free and without signing up. Add them all, then download the results one by one or in a single ZIP. The maximum size depends on your device and browser, with a few caps that protect its memory (for example 20,000 files per archive or 5 million filled cells per workbook: see the home page FAQ); a file over one of them is not converted, and a message says so.
Formatomat is designed for recent browsers on computers, iPhone and Android, with no app to install. A conversion the browser cannot do (a format it cannot read or write) is refused with a message that says so.
